Not falling for the never-before never-again deals
Didn't feel like braving the odds for the 2am black friday deals? Don't worry. Many others didn't either. In fact, the whole notion of 50-80% deals for the doorbusters doesn't resonate with many people. Contrary to expectation, people stopped buying things just because they are cheap - they want to buy the product they need, and a 25% discount is all that it takes!
Between Nov 24th and Nov25th, we surveyed 521 men and women on their mobile phones to find out what they prefer to shop this holiday season, at what time, and how much discount are they looking to get.
Now you may ask, why wouldn't anyone prefer a 50% or 60% discount to a 25% discount. If asked as a distinct question - yes they would. Hence we asked them to choose between combinations of product, type of sale, and discount. And we found product is still the main driver for holiday shopping sales.
Men are really from Mars, and women are from Venus??
Not quite. But Men prefer Cashmere sweaters this holiday season, and Women prefer workshop toolkits. So is Craftsman Tools advertising to the wrong target segment (men)? No, I think they are smart - in their latest TV commercials, they are advertising to both the buyers of gifts as well as the actual users.
Overall, both men and women preferred to buy a gaming console like Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 - you can't go wrong with this gift!
